A Chance to Give Back

Join our Service Outreach this Week

The Honors Student Leadership Council (HSLC) is kicking off November with a week of Service! The various activities will take place in the Honors Commons (Maeser first floor), where all BYU students are welcome to participate throughout the week as schedules permit. Even if you just have a few minutes before or after class, during a lunch break, or need a break from studying, stop by! Diana Gonzales, HSLC President hopes all of our Honors students will utilize this opportunity to serve others in small and simple ways. “We know students are stressed out, and oftentimes a great way to ease that stress is by serving someone else.” HSLC is hoping these activities will give students an outlet from the pressure that can often come at this time of the semester, and be a light to those who may be struggling. We all have something to share, even if it’s just a few minutes of our time.

Here are the various service activities that will take place this week.

Monday: Thank You Cards for Faculty
Students can express their thanks to their favorite professors by stopping by the Maeser building and writing a thank-you note.

Tuesday: Care Packages
With finals around the corner, this can often be the most stressful time of year for college students. Students can pick up care-packages put together by HSLC filled with treats and goodies to help them power through the rest of the semester.

Wednesday: Plastic Yarn for Quilts (Working with Y-Serve)
In collaboration with BYU”s Y-Serve program, students will get the chance to create yarn out of trash bags to give to people in need of warm clothes and blankets for upcoming colder months.

Thursday: Thanksgiving Tree
There’s no better time than November to express what you’re thankful for. Students can do this by writing down what they’re most grateful for onto colorful sticky notes that will be added to the Thanksgiving Tree found in the basement of the Maeser building.

Friday: Coat Drive
Students will be encouraged to donate any unused or worn-out coats to the donation bin provided by HSLC. These coats will be donated to a local organization where they will be distributed to families in need.

We hope to see you in the Maeser this week as we share our friendship, compassion, and encouragement with our Honors, campus, and local communities!
