Sara is a senior from Atlanta, Georgia (and a handful of other places). She is looking forward to attending physical therapy school following her graduation from BYU. If you were to catch Sara on a normal day, she would probably be running experiments on mice brains, volunteering at the Utah State Hospital, catching up on her physical therapy applications, or listening to her favorite history podcast. Sara is passionate about helping people learn to walk again and baking.

What are people often surprised to learn about you?

I have been to 47 states!

What has been the most significant plot twist in your life?

I won a statewide business plan competition when I was in 8th grade. Before this, I did not have very much confidence in myself but winning helped me believe that I could accomplish great things.

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?

I decided to join the Honors Program because I wanted to challenge myself. I thought the idea of publishing a thesis was a great goal to pursue and one that would force me out of my comfort zone (it definitely has).

What has been your favorite part of your Honors experience?

I have loved preparing for my thesis. In preparation, I joined Dr. Yorgason's lab a year ago and have loved getting to know the people there. I have truly found a community among other scholars and teachers. If it weren't for the Honors requirements, I would not have pursued research as an undergrad, so I am grateful for this opportunity.

What is your next step in Honors?

My proposal for my thesis entitled "The Effects of Vesicular Packaging on Spontaneous ATP and Dopamine Release in the Nucleus Accumbens" has been accepted and I am currently working on completing my research. I will defend my thesis at the end of the Fall 2022 semester.
