Name: Nicholas Bown
Major: Philosophy

Nicholas is a local boy from American Fork, Utah. He served in the California, Roseville mission, Georgia, Atlanta mission, and the India, New Delhi mission. Nicholas is a lover of ideas eloquently expressed. He is constantly reading, even while walking, so you may see him with his head in a book while heading to his next class. He also loves hiking, camping, and anything outdoors (like a local Utah boy should). His family is passionate about food and he and his brothers love trying new recipes.

What sparked your interest in your major?

I became interested in the Philosophy major because all of my favorite professors had a serious philosophical background and I want to think like them.

What’s the best-ket secret at BYU? Why?

The pebble ice machines on campus.

What are people often surprised to learn about you?

That I have had over fifteen concussions.

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?

I decided to join the Honors Program because of the focus on interdisciplinary thinking. I love learning everything and I think that underlying principles carry across every discipline. It is fascinating to get down to those bedrock principles.

What has been your favorite Honors experience?

My favorite Honors experience (outside the amazing unexpected connections courses, I can’t just pick one) is attending the chocolate chats. I love learning from professors across campus in a small group that allows for dialogue.

What is your next step in Honors? (Specific class, thesis proposal/defense, etc.)

I am currently in the Great Questions 320 course. I am super excited to explore answering a deep question through numerous lenses.
