I'm from Palo Alto, California. I like exploring new places and learning all about them through food, I consider myself a foodie! I love to cook and bake and have a giant stack of recipes that I like to look through for inspiration. I also love to make art for fun, usually painting, drawing, or embroidering. At the end of a long day, I like to take a nice walk and come home to a good book.

What are people often surprised to learn about you?

That I am a brown belt in Shotokan karate I've been training for about nine years now and have taught kids classes too I am hoping to get my black belt soon.

What sparked your interest in your major?

My high school was piloting a CTE program the very year I started high school a dual enrollment program called childhood development Through this program I was able to visit a local preschool twice a week to help out in the classroom I quickly realized I love working with young kids After three years in this program I graduated high school determined to be an ECE major.

What’s the best-kept secret at BYU? Why?

I would say the Green Me smoothies sold in the BYU store You can find them in a minifridge next to the fudge Just because some of them are green doesn't mean they aren't delicious.

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?

Part of the reason why I want to be an educator is because I think so many subjects are so fascinating and I love learning a lot about a lot of stuff! To teach, I truly think one needs to develop a broad range of skills, a broad base of knowledge, and to be able to engage in multiple perspectives. Similarly, being in the Honors program means I get to take the coolest classes and learn about how experts in other disciplines look at different subjects, which has been so valuable for me so far! I also am so excited to complete a thesis eventually!

What has been your favorite Honors experience?

I really enjoyed the class "The Art of Transformative Storytelling", taught by Mat Duerden and Jamin Rowan! Specifically, finding my own personal transformative story and discovering how to tell it, as I learned that we all have stories to tell that have the power to impact others. Getting up on stage was scary, but being able to tell my story in front of my peers was so rewarding and the experience itself was a transformative one. I highly recommend it, even or perhaps especially for those who do not love public speaking.

What is your next step in Honors?

Right now I'm in my last unexpected connections class called "The Experience of Wonder" and taking the Great Questions class! Both are so interesting and I love the question that I am exploring right now for my essay. I won't give it away though, you have to ask me about it to find out!
