Major: Music
Graduation Date: 2025

Hello! I'm Katie the Eco Lady, or that's my superhero name anyway. I'm one-third of a set of triplets from the cornfields of Iowa, and I am about to enter my sophomore year. I'm a lifelong violinist and love to write orchestra and piano music. I'm a sucker for anything outdoors and high in the air; the mountain trails and ski slopes have quickly become my favorite part of Utah. I'm a big dog person, though my favorite animal is probably a bear. My biggest dream right now is to make excellent music as moving as Hans Zimmer's!

What are your favorite books? / What are you currently reading?

Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind and The Saints Vol I

What are three things that can always be found in your pantry/refrigerator?

Chicken breasts, quinoa, and Skippy's all-natural peanut butter (the kind you gotta stir real hard).

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?

I knew in freshman orientation when I went into the Honors Program presentation that I was in the right place. I think most who know me would say I am an embodiment of "interdisciplinary", part of why I've answered "what's your major" at least 6 different ways this past year. I think the Honors Program will be a powerful help to me in reaching my goals, because my passions, from promoting green energy to building nourishing local food systems, tend to lie in that mysterious space between disciplines. Plus, small classes and cool discussions? Writing a thesis? How awesome is that!

What has been your favorite part of your Honors experience?

Chocolate chats have been my highlights, I think. The discussions have all been intriguing, and I just love to meet these people that are each inspiring in their own ways. They give me something to mull over for the next week that I wouldn't have thought of. The bagel bash may be a close second... (Those everything bagels slap!)

What is your next step in Honors?

Unexpected Connections classes. I'm so excited!
