Major: Music Performance
Minor: Entrepreneurship
Graduation: April 2026
I hail from Fort Mill, South Carolina, although I was born in Virginia. I am the oldest child in my family, and I have 3 younger siblings. I am a HUGE marching band and drum corps nerd, and I've played piano for practically my entire life. I love solving Sudoku puzzles, arranging music in Musescore (my sheet music notation software), and reading books. I am currently majoring in Music Performance with an emphasis on piano. I plan on obtaining a master’s degree in the same area of study, followed by a Doctor of Musical Arts degree (DMA).
What sparked your interest in your major?
I have played piano for the vast majority of my life, and I also played trombone extensively in high school (and I play currently). I love music! Such a heavy background in making, composing, arranging, and performing music has solidified my resolve to share and connect it with people. For those reasons, I decided to major in piano performance.
All modesty aside, what are you better at than 90% of people?
I am better than most people at planning a firework show. Last 4th of July, I got together with my future in-laws and created, organized, and executed a 7000+ shell show complete with mortars, timed fuses, and 9 pallets full of explosives. Additionally, I put all of this information into a spreadsheet, so we'll be able to improve it for next year. It was a unique experience, and I'm so looking forward for the years to come!
What do you do differently than most people?
I am surprised at the amount of people that do not double-knot their shoes. Know this: my shoes are never untied.
What is something you can never be found without?
I'm almost always carrying sheet music books in my backpack! Typical . . .
When you have 30 minutes of free time, what do you do?
Whenever I have free time, I enjoy discovering new pieces of music and/or podcasts to listen to. I strive to always be looking for new things and ideas to discover in order to broaden my perspective on the world. I also enjoy the occasional round of Mario Kart.
Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?
I decided to try out the Honors Program because my fiancée recommended that I do it! (She is also in Honors.) I took the introductory courses to Honors and interdisciplinary study and absolutely loved the concept of correlating differing areas of learning. At the conclusion of these courses, I decided to join the program, and now I look forward to really getting into the meat of it!
What has been your favorite part of your Honors experience?
I enjoy the range of people's majors in the classes. I love to draw upon others' understanding and methods of learning in order to further broaden my perceptions and observations. I think that, combined with the smaller class sizes, is what I have relished in the program so far.
What is your next step in Honors?
I just finished the introductory courses, so my next step is to take the Unexpected Connections courses and to start to think about what I want my thesis to be about!
