I am a sophomore this fall majoring in English with the hopes of becoming a lawyer. I am the youngest of three and a very proud member of a military family, so I moved around my whole life, but I call Arizona my home. With that being said, I thrive in the sun and love to do anything outdoors, but playing cards, watching movies, shopping, and reading are some of my favorite pastimes. I’m also super competitive and love to win, so whether it’s sports or board games or anything in between, I’m so going for gold.

What's one item on your bucket list?

I personally don’t have a bucket list because while it’s cliche, I truly do want to experience everything life has to offer, but I hope to go whale watching in Alaska in the near future!

What are your favorite books? / What are you currently reading?

I’m a book worm through and through so I’ll happily read anything, but I tend to gravitate towards Historical Fiction or Biographies, specifically surrounding World War II. The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris is one of my personal favorites, but I just recently started reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and am absolutely enthralled, so I’d highly recommend it as well.

What has been the most significant plot twist in your life?

Choosing to attend BYU has easily been the most significant plot twist in my life. While many current students have dreamed about being a Cougar their entire lives, excited to follow in the footsteps of their parents or siblings, this wasn't the case for me. My dream was to play collegiate volleyball, and I dedicated seven years of my life to make this goal a reality, working tirelessly in the classroom and on the court, sacrificing anything that seemed to obstruct achieving this feat. I had a plan: attend university on a full athletic scholarship so I could graduate debt free and pursue higher education without the burden of student loans weighing on the shoulders of my future family. However, as Covid ended my sand and club volleyball season my junior year of high school and, like a majority of the nation, dismantled my “normal” way of life, I quickly realized God had a much different plan in mind. Forced to step away from volleyball for the first time in six years, I quickly realized that there was so much more to life than volleyball, and there was so much more to me than just being an athlete. As I weighed the offers and options extended before me, I felt prompted that BYU was where I needed to be. I had never imagined a future that didn't involve me wearing a jersey, but I am beyond grateful I chose to follow that prompting and let Christ be the author of my story, because His plan has exceeded any I ever dreamed of writing for myself.

When you have 30 minutes of free time, what do you do?

If I have 30 minutes of free time, first I’d say a prayer of gratitude because I’m a busy girl and that’s hard to come by. But all jokes aside, I love to be outdoors so I’d be content doing anything active in the sun, but playing sand volleyball or pickle ball, paddle boarding, and reading would be my go-to’s.

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?

I decided to join the Honors Program because I wanted to surround myself with some of the best and brightest that this remarkable university has to offer, and I believe that is what the Honors Program encompasses. The Honors Program cultivates an environment where a thirst for knowledge is celebrated and satisfied and the broadening of perspectives is championed, and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to immerse myself into this atmosphere of excellence where I am encircled by equally ambitious individuals that foster the same love for learning I hold near and dear.

What has been your favorite part of your Honors experience?

My favorite part of my Honors experience thus far has been the people I’ve been fortunate enough to meet. One of the best aspects of the Honors Program is the relationships it truly helps foster amongst students and faculty. I look forward to continuing to meet new people and establish connections amongst my peers and professors that will positively influence my time here at BYU and for the rest of my life.

What is your next step in Honors?

As my next step in Honors, I will be taking Honors 221: Discovering Yourself in Your Place and Honors 226: The Art of Transformative Storytelling in the fall for my first two unexpected connections courses.
