A Sweet Way to Learn

Chocolate Milk Discussions are a sweet way to learn. Come to Chocolate Milk Discussions and broaden your understanding of the world with the help of professors from across campus.

When Ailed Cazares sat down for her first Chocolate Milk Discussion, she had no idea what to expect. The discussion, led by Comparative Literature professor, Dr. Mike Pope, focused on futility in Latin poetry. Dr. Pope specializes in Latin epic poetry and is fascinated by Epicureanism and Stoicism.

Ailed is a pre-media art major and an Honors student. She was excited to see how the Discussion measured up to the hype. “I just thought it was awesome,” Ailed said. “I was told by seniors and TAs that all of the Chocolate Milk Discussions are super fun and interesting, so I was like, ‘Oh I’ll go sometime when I have time,’ and I was really interested.”

The passion for learning by professors like Dr. Pope, enhances the discussions. “The reason I got into this is because I like poetry. And I really like epic poetry,” Dr. Pope said. For him, the Chocolate Milk Discussion was a way to explore something he is fascinated in with students.

As Honors senior Michael Mortenson points out, there are not a lot of downsides to Chocolate Milk Discussions. “I learn more in 50 minutes on Fridays than I learn in class all week. Plus, there’s chocolate milk!” he said.
