"Study the science of art, Study the art of science," Leonardo da Vinci once wisely said. It's for this reason that I love the Honors program so much! Throughout my life, I've sought to find this balance in school, hobbies, and other pursuits. I chose to study Linguistics as a way to apply both creativity and logic to something I love: language. In my free time, I love to do art and write (though not that well) or solve puzzles. Though I'm not sure where I'll end up after graduation, I know I'll find some career that will allow me to explore both sides of myself.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“Let everything happen to you. Beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.” This quote by Rilke was featured at the end of the film Jojo Rabbit which is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love the reminder that life is full of both wonderful and terrible things. There is space for all types of experiences, just keep moving forward.

What are your favorite books? / What are you currently reading?

I love historical nonfiction. Weaving a good story into the larger tapestry of history with skilled writing has always appealed to me. Learning more about history also helps me feel like a better global citizen.

When you have 30 minutes of free time what do you do?

Listen to podcasts, do crosswords, or go out on a run.

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?

At first, I have to admit that I joined because wanted the bragging rights of saying I was a part of an elite academic program. That still rings true but I stay because the 200-level classes have been so fascinating and I've made some great connections with other devoted and bright students. I love the challenge!

What has been your favorite Honors experience?

Learning about stewardship, botany, literature, and sense of place with Professors Whipple and Handley this semester in Honors 225. Would highly recommend to everyone!

What is your next step in Honors?

I'm finishing up the 200-level classes this year but I'm also developing a research project that I'm hoping to use for my thesis.
