Sarah Collins
Major: Social-Cultural Anthropology
Minor: Asian Studies
Graduation: June 2022

I'm a huge nerd and I really love people. At BYU, I've been fortunate enough to work with two professors on research regarding spiritual experiences and political polarization in the United States. In addition to this I'm currently working on my own research for my thesis, which is about witchcraft and womanhood. I'm an officer in BYU's Anti-Human Trafficking Club where I'm able to serve others and help to spread awareness regarding the issue. After I (hopefully) graduate in April, I plan to pursue a graduate degree in law.

What are three things that can always be found in your pantry/refrigerator?

Apple cider, ramen, and broccoli. I usually don't eat them together.

What sparked your interest in your major?

An accident sparked my interest in my major. I've always loved people, but I didn't know how to channel that passion until I learned about ethnography in an archaeology class I took to fulfill a GE.

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?

Again, it was kind of an accident. I had heard of the Honors Program before coming to BYU but didn't really understand what it was. While I was looking at graduate programs, I mistakenly thought that I had to graduate from the Honors Program in order to gain admittance to the graduate program. So, I signed up for the Honors Program. Once I learned that I didn't actually have to graduate from the Honors Program I was already enjoying the program too much to quit.

What has been your favorite part of your Honors experience?

I have loved the Unexpected Connections courses and how well they lead into the Great Questions class. They have not only broadened my horizons but have facilitated many of my most spiritual and educational experiences at BYU. These classes have also connected me with many incredible professors and given me the opportunity to learn from them.

What is your next step in Honors?

I have selected my thesis topic and have been conducting research since June. The next step for me is to write my thesis and defend it.
