I really enjoy organizing and solving abstract problems. I find it fascinating to deconstruct a complicated situation into its component parts and arrange those into an actionable solution. This interest applies directly to my interest in business, and I hope to have a career in consulting. I enjoy business, but I am frustrated by the stereotype of the selfish and unethical businessman, so I am passionate about ethics and morality. I enjoy rock climbing, tinkering with art and robots, and spending time with my wife.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“Don’t lick a cactus”: it’s just sound advice.

What are people often surprised to learn about you?

I have a genetic mutation that makes it theoretically impossible for me to get addicted to any substance.

What has been the most significant plot twist in your life?

I got hit by a truck while I was on my mission and broke 15 ribs. I had to come home for reconstructive surgery on both feet. My girlfriend (now wife) entered the MTC on the same day and so I ended up waiting another year for her.

All modesty aside, what are you better at than 90% of people?

I am really good at guessing what is going to happen in a movie or TV show. My wife is constantly baffled by my ability to make accurate predictions out of “seemingly nothing”.

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?

My wife was doing it, and her uncle was the assistant dean. There wasn't really an option but to join the Program.

What has been your favorite Honors experience?

Last fall I took a class about the connection between literature and astronomy. We explored the development of transcendental experiences throughout science, literature, and our personal lives. At the end of the semester, the class took a trip to Capitol Reef National Park to look at the stars. Also, our class met every day in the planetarium.

What is your next step in Honors?

My next step in the Honors Program is to finish my last unexpected connection class and do my leadership development experience.
