I'm Emily! I'm from Texas and love going to school here at BYU, even when the sidewalks on campus are death traps in the winter. I love volleyball and my brother recently convinced me to take a Ju-Jitsu class with him, so I guess we're trying that out! I'm lucky enough to work with the women's volleyball team here - they're the best! I served a mission in Tampa, Florida and would 10/10 recommend a visit to Tampa at some point in your lives.

What is your favorite quote and why?

The reason that the heavens and the Earth are eternal and lasting is that they do not exist for themselves That is how they endure This is by Lao Tzu a Taoist religious leader I love this quote because I feel that it ultimately sums up our purpose here too I wholeheartedly believe that we'll find that we accomplish a lot more in our lives when our focus is outside of ourselves

What’s one item on your bucket list?

I'm terrified of heights but am a HUGE roller coaster fan I want to visit all twenty seven of the Six Flags amusement parks.

What’s the best-kept secret at BYU? Why?

The Best Buddies program I didn't know about it until I was introduced to it by my husband who participated in it at another school but WOW Best Buddies pairs you up with a buddy who has special needs and you basically get to be their BFF There is so much joy in these people and they have made my life so much brighter

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?

I was extremely drawn to the Unexpected Connections courses that the Honors Program offers because I felt that they would add variety and depth to my studies. I feel like I took the best 3 Unexpected Connections classes EVER and feel so blessed to be part of this program!

What has been your favorite Honors experience?

I took The Music of Birds and Humans during the Spring 2022 semester and we got to go on a trip to St. George! The class was a bit smaller and was really close knit. We had a blast hiking, watching Something Bit Me at night, and birdwatching together. We attended a Utah Symphony Orchestra concert at an amphitheater smack in the middle of the beautiful red-rock landscape and they played a piece inspired by birdsong that we'd studied throughout the semester!

What is your next step in Honors?

I am working on my thesis proposal!
