I am a molecular biology major from Valdosta, Georgia and am interested in pursuing a career in bioengineering and business. When I am not doing computational proteomics research or running my glass recycling nonprofit, Glass Roots Recycling, you can find me spending time with friends, cooking, or enjoying the mountains.

What sparked your interest in your major?

I am fascinated by the applications of molecular biology in the production of materials like plastics. "Molecular machines" inside of cells can be used in so many different ways and have great potential to help solve many production problems.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. It doesn't matter if you are a freshman. There are so many opportunities for students at BYU regarding research, social impact, etc.

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?

I love making unexpected connections and doing research. Picking one thing to do has always been difficult for me, so I love how the Honors Program encourages us to study widely and to get involved in research.

What has been your favorite part of your Honors experience?

I have really loved being involved with research. I have had the opportunity to develop lots of new skills and to learn how to formulate and answer my own research questions. Even if you don't plan to pursue a research-based career, I highly recommend trying it out. You will learn so much and have a great time.

What is your next step in Honors?

This coming semester I will be taking Honors 290R and will start the process of preparing my thesis proposal.
