Carter Drysdale

Carter Drysdale
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Graduation: April 2028

I would consider myself as a creative person, and despite majoring in Mechanical Engineering, I have a background in video production and 3d animation. I’ve found that this background can be helpful in approaching challenges in new, possibly more efficient ways. In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, and improv piano, as well as road cycling. After finishing an accelerated High-school schedule, I hope to go through college at a slower pace and really take it all in.

What are three things that can always be found in your pantry/refrigerator?

You could always find some zucchini, 90% dark chocolate, and when I’m feeling a little reckless with my wallet, a nice steak ready to be cooked medium rare.

What sparked your interest in your major?

Since I was very little, I have always had a fascination with the world around me. I have a passion for discovering how things work down to the smallest detail. Over time I began to find a passion for creating these mechanisms myself, starting with bows and arrows in my backyard, and over time, even my own from-scratch pair of Bluetooth headphones! I guess Mechanical engineering was one of those things that just made sense!

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?

Right when I heard about it, I knew that the Honors Program was for me. The focus on critical thinking, personal and external paradigms, and interdisciplinary learning was just too good to pass up!

What has been your favorite part of your Honors experience?

The people! Honors students (and mentors!) are straight amazing. They seek not just the answer to the question, but the mechanics behind it- every new challenge an opportunity to stretch and grow themselves. My whole life I have sought after these people, and blessedly have had much success, at my high school, and now here at BYU!

What is your next step in Honors?

I leave after this semester for a mission and then I will come back and grind hopefully all the way to an eventual thesis and Graduation! *fingers crossed haha!*
