Savannah Melvin
Major: Anthropology
Graduation: April 2021

I am a Zimbabwean born ex-professional waterpolo player and aspiring international lawyer. I am passionate about human rights and gender equity and hope to work for the United Nations one day. On a more personal level, I am a horrible skier, a Netflix lover, and a Froyo addict. Lastly, I recently married the Texan of my dreams--he is applying to medical school (to begin next fall), so we are currently prepping for our next big adventure.

What is your go-to comfort food?
Definitely Indian curry. I spent the first 7 years of my life living in Sri Lanka, so I guess it is a food that just takes me back to my first home.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
GO ON A STUDY ABROAD! It is way more affordable and possible than you think!

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?
I was interested in the thesis aspect of the program requirements. This made me curious abut the program and so I researched it, and decided that the multi-disciplinary approach to honors topics was something I wanted to explore more.

What has been your favorite part of your Honors Experience?
I did my thesis research in Tena, Ecuador and loved every second of it. I also took a class on Race and Music (227) last Winter (2020) which completely changed my perspective and outlook on the world.

What is your next step in Honors?
I am currently taking HONRS 226 and 320 right now. I am also planning on defending my thesis in the upcoming months.
