Marisa Gonzalez-Mabbutt
Major: International Relations
Graduation: December 2020

I am currently a senior at Brigham Young University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in international relations with an emphasis in Latin American studies. I am the youngest of four daughters in a family that has continually supported my academic ambitions, many of which have included gaining experience through internships, research programs, and, of course, the Honors program. After graduation, I want to go to law school and develop the skills and knowledge that will allow me to work for a multinational corporation abroad. One day, I also hope to help develop small businesses in minority communities by providing access to legal services.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
Be better at memorizing names and faces. Connections are so important later on!

What's one item on your bucket list?
A trip to Peru. I haven't been able to go to South America yet!

Why did you decide to join the Honors Program?
I've always believed in a healthy challenge, and I wanted to tackle the Honors Program to challenge my perspectives and my commitment to academic excellence.

What has been your favorite part of your Honors Experience?
The Great Questions Essay! It was a wonderful chance to really dig in about personal queries or thoughts I had and be able to incorporate different disciplines' take on an issue.

What is your next step in Honors?
I actually need to submit the details for my thesis defense tomorrow! How terrifying.
